Once again, Royalmont's 5th grade class has delivered an impressive show with their annual presentation of literary monologues. Each students reads a novel and writes a monologue from the perspective of a main character that summarizes the plot of the story. Each student presents their monologue from memory in full costume, with props and sets.
The Monologue project combines the Intellectual Formation of reading a novel, analyzing the story, and writing a speech with the Human Formation that comes from public speaking.
This year's presentation included: the Cowardly Lion, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, Fern from Charlotte's Web, Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean, and more.
Congratulations to Mr. Schlotman and our 5th grade class for a job well done.

After a rigorous year of accelerated academics, we hold an Awards Ceremony to recognize students for their efforts throughout the school year. Awards are given by each Formator in all subject areas, and include the Academic Achievement Award and the Top Scholar Award for each subject. In addition to academic awards, students are also recognized for top performance in Spanish, Art, Music, and Physical Education.
Mr. Schlotman also recognized the efforts of the 4th through 8th grade boys who serve at our all-school Masses. Not only do they serve at Mass, but they act as sacristans as well by setting up for Mass, preparing the altar, making sure there are enough hosts, and preparing the thurible when we have incense on First Fridays. Some of our 8th grade servers assist Father more directly by acting as the emcee for Mass, and also spend time training the other boys on how to serve. Our Altar Servers were awarded a Server's Pin for their dedication and service.
We also recognized the 6th through 8th grade girls who participate in Schola, our select choir. The girls sing as a choir during Mass and also serve as cantors. As well, Schola performed for community events throughout the year, including the One More Soul Banquet last fall. The girls received a Schola pin for their excellence as musicians.
Although they were recognized the previous evening at our Family Graduation Mass, Semper Altius winners in each class were recognized again in front of their peers. The Semper Altius Award is given to students in 1st through 8th grades who have achieved outstanding levels of integral formation in each of our four pillars of formation: intellectual, human, spiritual, and apostolic.
Thank you to all of our students and Formators for a great year at Royalmont!

This morning, Mr. Schlotman's 5th grade class shared a poem at Morning Assembly called "Hymn" by Jars of Clay, a Christian band. They recited the whole poem as a group and then again in solo parts.
Thank you, 5th grade, for sharing this beautiful poem during the month of the Sacred Heart.

This morning, some of our 1st graders shared their book report presentations with their class. Each student got into character by dressing-up as the protagonist from their book. Some students also made a diorama that depicted their favorite scene. In their book report presentations, each student had to share about the plot of the book, the main characters, and their favorite parts.
Great job, 1st grade!

Over the past few weeks, Mr. Schlotman's 5th grade class has been studying rockets and making their own models. Today was the much-anticipated launch. Each student got the chance to launch the rocket they made in class. Once launched, the rocket released an internal parachute allowing it to float gently back to earth. As the rocket floated down, each student tried to run and catch it before it hit the ground.
In this clip, the 5th grade class chants a countdown as Luke launches his rocket and chases after it.

Some of our students went on a field trip to the Hondros School of Nursing. Showing students all the diverse ways they can apply their talents in a career, further enriches the classroom experience and helps prepare our students for college and beyond.
These pictures show our students disecting intestines, exploring the anatomy, working with models of the human brain and watching sophisticated software programs used in the healthcare industry.

Four times a year, Royalmont students participate in Poetry Presentations, but our Kindergartners spend the first three Poetry days observing the older students and learning how it's done. Then for the final Poetry Presentation of the year, they have the opportunity to participate by preparing their own poem. So, this week was their turn, and they performed their poems for a packed house full of parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends!
The video above gives you a sampling of the excellent job all of our Kindergartners did in their first Poetry Presentation.
A special thanks to Mrs. Lieb and Miss Mersch for all their hard work in helping to prepare the students for this big day!

After competing against his peers at Royalmont and locally in Cincinnati, Jimmy earned a spot at the 63rd annual State Science Day competition hosted by The Ohio State University where he had the opportunity to compete against 1,200 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics students in grades 5-12. At the competition, held this past weekend in Columbus, Jimmy presented his science research project entitled: "What are the factors of rust and how can it be prevented?"
During the day, more than 1,000 judges evaluated student projects. Later in the afternoon an Awards Ceremony was held, during which Jimmy received a score of "Superior," the highest ratings possible!
Congratulations, Jimmy!

Yesterday, Royalmont Kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders enjoyed a field trip to Krohn's Conservatory, a part of the Cincinnati Parks network. At the conservatory, students took in the popular springtime "Butterfly Show," where thousands of butterflies are let loose in the garden. As you can see, they had some close encounters of the butterfly-kind...and smiles galore.
Their experience at the conservatory tied-in to their recent lessons on the life-cycles of butterflies. Formators used the opportunity to connect a science lesson with a religion lesson by comparing the transformation of the butterfly with the Resurrection of Our Lord.

This afternoon, Royalmont 5th graders presented their annual Monologues to the student body and their parents. Each student read a novel, and prepared a 2 minute monologue as if they were a character in the book. With full sets and costumes, students performed their monologues from memory. In this clip, Ethan performs as "Frodo" from J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings."
