5th Grade Monologues 2012

(download)
Once again, Royalmont's 5th grade class has delivered an impressive show with their annual presentation of literary monologues. Each students reads a novel and writes a monologue from the perspective of a main character that summarizes the plot of the story. Each student presents their monologue from memory in full costume, with props and sets.

The Monologue project combines the Intellectual Formation of reading a novel, analyzing the story, and writing a speech with the Human Formation that comes from public speaking.

This year's presentation included: the Cowardly Lion, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, Fern from Charlotte's Web, Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean, and more.

Congratulations to Mr. Schlotman and our 5th grade class for a job well done.

A Poem for Jesus

This morning, Mr. Schlotman's 5th grade class shared a poem at Morning Assembly called "Hymn" by Jars of Clay, a Christian band. They recited the whole poem as a group and then again in solo parts.

Thank you, 5th grade, for sharing this beautiful poem during the month of the Sacred Heart.

A Lesson in Teamwork

What do you do if you have a lot of things to move in a short amount of time? Well, you make a 185-person assembly line of course!

This morning, we were faced with the task of taking the 50 chairs that we had borrowed for the Easter Concert and returning them to the school next door. In the ultimate display of teamwork, the entire student body worked together to accomplish this task. Lining the hall by classes, they passed the chairs one by one from the auditorium, down the hall, out the back door, and across the back parking lot. Even the little Kindergartners helped!

By working together, our students were able to move all 50 chairs in just around 5 minutes, and they had a ton of fun doing it!

Kindergartners Participate in their First Poetry Presentation

(download)
Four times a year, Royalmont students participate in Poetry Presentations, but our Kindergartners spend the first three Poetry days observing the older students and learning how it's done. Then for the final Poetry Presentation of the year, they have the opportunity to participate by preparing their own poem. So, this week was their turn, and they performed their poems for a packed house full of parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends!

The video above gives you a sampling of the excellent job all of our Kindergartners did in their first Poetry Presentation.

A special thanks to Mrs. Lieb and Miss Mersch for all their hard work in helping to prepare the students for this big day!

Cinco de Mayo at Royalmont = Piñatas!

Each year, Señora Taney makes Cinco de Mayo a special celebration by creating a piñata for each class filled with yummy candy. In true Royalmont form, the students cheered on their classmates as they took their swings.

Congratulations to Gabriel for breaking open the 2nd grade piñata!

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

It's our first day back from Easter Break and this morning Mrs. K's PreK 4 class celebrated Easter together by making one of our students' all-time favorite desserts: Resurrection Rolls!

These delicious desserts are a great lesson on the Resurrection. The marshmallow in the middle melts during baking to create an "empty tomb" reminding us of the great miracle and mystery we celebrate on Easter.

Happy Easter from Royalmont Academy!

5th Grade Monologues

This afternoon, Royalmont 5th graders presented their annual Monologues to the student body and their parents. Each student read a novel, and prepared a 2 minute monologue as if they were a character in the book. With full sets and costumes, students performed their monologues from memory. In this clip, Ethan performs as "Frodo" from J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings."

Ode to Royalmont

For this round of Poetry Presentations, Mrs. Heyob's class went all out by writing their own poem about how much they love Royalmont! Together as a class, they wrote each stanza describing one aspect of our school. Mrs. Heyob incorporated this activity into a lesson on rhyming words. They practiced hard, made up hand motions, and even incorporated some props. They performed their poem for their parents and peers at Tuesday morning's presentations.
