Once again, Royalmont's 5th grade class has delivered an impressive show with their annual presentation of literary monologues. Each students reads a novel and writes a monologue from the perspective of a main character that summarizes the plot of the story. Each student presents their monologue from memory in full costume, with props and sets.

The Monologue project combines the Intellectual Formation of reading a novel, analyzing the story, and writing a speech with the Human Formation that comes from public speaking.

This year's presentation included: the Cowardly Lion, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, Fern from Charlotte's Web, Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean, and more.

Congratulations to Mr. Schlotman and our 5th grade class for a job well done.

Tue, 01 May 2012 04:47:00 -0700 Grandparents Day 2012 http://royalmont.com/127673594 http://royalmont.com/127673594

Grandparents have a special role in the lives of their grandchildren. This is what we remembered at Royalmont's recent Grandparent's Day Celebration. The day began with an all-school Mass. In his homily, Fr. John spoke about how our faith is passed on from generation to generation and that we really have our grandparents to thank for handing down the faith and teaching us to love Christ and the Church.

Following Mass, grandparents visited the classrooms and spent quality time with their grandchildren. Younger students played games or made crafts with their grandparents, while our Upper School students prepared some activities for their special visitors. 6th grade students taught their grandparents a Spanish lesson. 7th grade students worked with their grandparents to make and launch rockets made from 2-liter pop bottles. 8th grade students prepared a picture slideshow and shared about their recent class trip to Washington D.C.

Following classroom visits and a delicious lunch, grandparents were treated to a special presentation of songs from our recent Easter Concert.

Grandparents Day a special day for students and grandparents alike. In addition to many locals, grandparents joined us from out of state, including: Texas, Louisianna, Florida, New Mexico, Virginia, South Carolina, and Nevada.

Happy Easter from Royalmont Academy!

After 40 days of Lent, the Church offers us 50 days of joy: the Easter Season! Royalmont students celebrated Easter with song at our recent Easter Concert. After working countless hours learning songs, hand motions, and music for their instrumental pieces, they were ready for the big night. Family, friends, and alumni gathered to enjoy the show and remember that Easter hasn't passed: we are actually right in the midst of it.

"We are the Easter people and Hallelujah is our song." - Pope John Paul II

Today, Royalmont continues it's Holy Thursday tradition of holding a mini-mission. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade, led by Formators and parent volunteers, head out to surrounding neighborhoods to bring God's love to others during Holy Week. Going door-to-door, students ask for prayer intentions and hand out a flyer with a listing of Mass times for Easter. Through the mini-mission, we hope to give a positive witness of our faith and share Christ with others.

In this clip, students receive a blessing from Fr. Geoff Drew at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church as they head out on their mission.

Today, Royalmont kindergartners went on a field trip to the Heritage Village Museum in Sharon Woods Park. The Village is a recreated 1800’s community featuring thirteen historic buildings that were saved from destruction and moved to their present location.

While at the Village, students learned about life in the 1800's through multi-sensory activities that incorporated exploration and discovery. Trained presenters dressed in period clothing shared about what everyday life was like in our area 200 years ago.

Mrs. Heyob's class recently incorporated the Virtue of the Month into their Poetry Presentations. The Virtue of the Month was "Friendship," so each student wrote a poem about one of their friends in their class. They picked names out of a hat to pair students up, and then they had to interview each other to get the content for their poems. They sought to find out what the other person liked to do, what their favorite things were, and even named a virtue that they thought their friend exhibited. This exercise also incorporated a lesson on rhyming words.

The result was a heart-felt and funny presentation. Enjoy!

This afternoon, our PreK4 students took advantage of the beautiful sunshine to go on a nature hike adventure. Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. K gave each little scientist a plastic bag and a list of several items to look for while they explored. Their magnifying glasses gave them a way to get a closer look at God's amazing creation. They found so many interesting things, including: pine cones, sticks, flowers, grass, dandelions, rocks, and more!

Royalmont’s Upper School students have worked very hard over the course of the school year on their Science Fair projects. Beginning in November, students decided on their topic, formed their hypotheses, and conducted experiments. After analyzing their data, each of them created a presentation to share their findings.

In February, we conducted our Royalmont Science Fair. After the judges reviewed each presentation, eight students received a “Superior” distinction, which earned them the privilege of attending the district science fair at the University of Cincinnati on Saturday, March 10th.

At UC, 476 students from the southwest Ohio district competed for $45,000 dollars in scholarships and prizes. Students who receive a “Superior” award at UC earn the chance to compete against students from across the state at the Ohio State Science Fair in Columbus.

Two Royalmont students earned a “Superior” distinction at the district science fair and will continue on to the state competition. Macy (a Royalmont 7th grader) was the recipient of a $200 cash award and Natalie (a Royalmont 8th grader) was the recipient of a $100 cash award and a $1,000 college scholarship.

Macy and Natalie will compete at the Ohio State Science Fair in Columbus on May 5th. Congratulations!

This year's Walk through History was a smashing success!

The Walk Through History projects are completed each year by our Upper School students. Students research an historical figure, write a speech, and memorize it for their presentation. On Walk Through History night, students present their speeches in first-person and full costume. This year, we saw a wide range of historical figures from George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant to Bill Cosby and Steve Jobs.

Our 6th grade class was split into two groups for their Walk Through History project. Each group researched an historical figure and wrote a short play portraying their life. The result was two very well done and quite hilarious 10-minute plays: "The Life and Times of William Shakespeare" and "The Story of Esther."

Congratulations to Miss Brown and our Upper School students for a job well done!

This month's Apostolic Project was making lunches for the poor. In this school-wide project, each grade did a small part: some put cookies, crackers, and sandwiches in baggies, while others packed the brown bags with fruit and juice boxes. The result was 150 brown bag lunches, which were taken to St. Francis and St. John's Soup Kitchens in Over the Rhine.

Apostolic Projects are held monthly at Royalmont and offer students the opportunity to serve others. The goal of each project is to help students to form an apostolic heart that is able to recognize the needs of those around them and respond to those needs with the love of Christ.

This weekend, Royalmont's 7th and 8th grade basketball teams played at the same time at the same venue, so there was a huge fan turn-out. After the 7th grade team won their game by a sizable margin, everyone came over to watch the exciting last moments of the 8th grade game.

It was their second match-up against St. Columban, and the game remained close into the 4th quarter. Royalmont had the ball with the score tied 24-24 and less than one minute on the clock. Royalmont maintained possession and ran down the clock with the hope of making the game winning bucket right before time ran out. With 12 seconds to go, Royalmont called timeout to set-up their play. The ball was inbounded and Evan sunk a lay-up right before the buzzer! It was an exciting end to a very close game!

In this photo, Royalmont's student fan section shows their support for their team!

One of our special traditions at Royalmont is celebrating "Las Posadas" at Christmas time. Each year two kindergartners are chosen to be Mary and Joseph and process into the auditorium while the whole student body sings the accompanying song in Spanish.

After the procession and prayers, Mr. Ferraro offered a brief Christmas reflection about St. Francis and the first nativity scene. As he spoke, two live goats entered the auditorium and he held a real infant to represent baby Jesus.

Merry Christmas from Royalmont!

Mon, 05 Dec 2011 07:37:00 -0800 An Historic Weekend http://royalmont.com/an-historic-weekend http://royalmont.com/an-historic-weekend

This weekend, Royalmont made it's CYO basketball debut, and what a thrill it was!

The 7th grade boys played St. Margaret of York and took home their first victory of the season! The 8th grade boys battled St. Columban and, while they fell back in the last minutes of the game, they played some excellent ball.

It was incredible to see the team spirit and hard work displayed; both the 7th and 8th grade teams fought and played with a lot of heart. It was clear, however, that as much as each team wanted to win, they didn't lose sight of the fact that playing sports is a great way to witness to each other and to their opponents. If a teammate made a mistake or missed a shot, the boys were quick to offer a pat on the back or encouraging word. When an RA player went diving for the ball against his opponent, he jumped up and offered the other player a hand to get him back on his feet.

The photos above feature the 8th grade's game against St. Columban. There was a huge turn out of support for our teams, and boy were our fans loud! Even Royalmont families who didn't even have a boy playing came out to show their support.

Great job, boys! This is sure to be an exciting season, so stay tuned for more updates.

Sat, 03 Dec 2011 07:02:00 -0800 Bishop Binzer Visits Royalmont http://royalmont.com/bishop-binzer-visits-royalmont http://royalmont.com/bishop-binzer-visits-royalmont

We were honored to have a very special guest at school yesterday: Bishop Joseph Binzer. When Royalmont was accepted as a school of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Bishop Binzer (then chancelor of the archdiocese) served as a kind and helpful voice, freely offering his wise council throughout the process. Our school has been blessed by his friendship over the years, and so it was with great joy that we received the news of his appointment as auxiliary bishop.

Bishop Binzer celebrated First Friday Mass for the whole school, parents, and benefactors, with Fr. Robert DeCesare LC, Fr. Matthew VanSchmoorenburg LC, and Fr. Matthew Summe LC con-celebrating. As always, students participated in the Mass in so many ways: by serving as altar servers, proclaiming the readings and petitions, and by leading the faithful in song. We are so thankful to Bishop Binzer for being with us and bringing us closer to Christ in the Mass.

After Mass, Bishop Binzer spent time visiting some classrooms. Each class had a little something ready for him to say thank you. Some offered homemade cards and spiritual bouquets. One 1st grade class connected their desks, creating a giant table and saved the head of the table, the place of honor, for Bishop Binzer, who sat with them enjoying their conversation and the cookies they offered. Meanwhile, the Upper School prepared a reception in the auditorium, prayed with him and enjoyed a delicious cake.

Thank you, Bishop Binzer, for visiting our school! You are in our prayers!
