Public Class 2012

At the end of the school year, students across America take exams to demonstrate all that they have learned throughout the year. In addition to final exams, Royalmont offers students the opportunity to show their formators and parents what they have learned through Public Class.

Public Class is an academic competition that covers all of the material learned during the past school year. Each grade is split into two teams which compete against each other by answering questions asked by their formators. After each grade competes, students receive awards for their efforts.

This year's Public Class competition resulted in a rare tie between the 8th grade teams, so every 8th grader received the highest award: a medal with a blue ribbon.

Congratulations to all of our students for their efforts during Public Class!

5th Grade Monologues 2012

(download)
Once again, Royalmont's 5th grade class has delivered an impressive show with their annual presentation of literary monologues. Each students reads a novel and writes a monologue from the perspective of a main character that summarizes the plot of the story. Each student presents their monologue from memory in full costume, with props and sets.

The Monologue project combines the Intellectual Formation of reading a novel, analyzing the story, and writing a speech with the Human Formation that comes from public speaking.

This year's presentation included: the Cowardly Lion, Anne of Green Gables, Alice in Wonderland, Fern from Charlotte's Web, Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean, and more.

Congratulations to Mr. Schlotman and our 5th grade class for a job well done.

Grandparents Day 2012

(download)

Grandparents have a special role in the lives of their grandchildren. This is what we remembered at Royalmont's recent Grandparent's Day Celebration. The day began with an all-school Mass. In his homily, Fr. John spoke about how our faith is passed on from generation to generation and that we really have our grandparents to thank for handing down the faith and teaching us to love Christ and the Church.

Following Mass, grandparents visited the classrooms and spent quality time with their grandchildren. Younger students played games or made crafts with their grandparents, while our Upper School students prepared some activities for their special visitors. 6th grade students taught their grandparents a Spanish lesson. 7th grade students worked with their grandparents to make and launch rockets made from 2-liter pop bottles. 8th grade students prepared a picture slideshow and shared about their recent class trip to Washington D.C.

Following classroom visits and a delicious lunch, grandparents were treated to a special presentation of songs from our recent Easter Concert.

Grandparents Day a special day for students and grandparents alike. In addition to many locals, grandparents joined us from out of state, including: Texas, Louisianna, Florida, New Mexico, Virginia, South Carolina, and Nevada.

Happy Easter from Royalmont Academy!

After 40 days of Lent, the Church offers us 50 days of joy: the Easter Season! Royalmont students celebrated Easter with song at our recent Easter Concert. After working countless hours learning songs, hand motions, and music for their instrumental pieces, they were ready for the big night. Family, friends, and alumni gathered to enjoy the show and remember that Easter hasn't passed: we are actually right in the midst of it.

Sent Forth By God's Blessing

Today, Royalmont continues it's Holy Thursday tradition of holding a mini-mission. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade, led by Formators and parent volunteers, head out to surrounding neighborhoods to bring God's love to others during Holy Week. Going door-to-door, students ask for prayer intentions and hand out a flyer with a listing of Mass times for Easter. Through the mini-mission, we hope to give a positive witness of our faith and share Christ with others.

In this clip, students receive a blessing from Fr. Geoff Drew at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church as they head out on their mission.

Field Trip to Heritage Village Museum

Today, Royalmont kindergartners went on a field trip to the Heritage Village Museum in Sharon Woods Park. The Village is a recreated 1800’s community featuring thirteen historic buildings that were saved from destruction and moved to their present location.

While at the Village, students learned about life in the 1800's through multi-sensory activities that incorporated exploration and discovery. Trained presenters dressed in period clothing shared about what everyday life was like in our area 200 years ago.

1st Grade Friendship

(download)
Mrs. Heyob's class recently incorporated the Virtue of the Month into their Poetry Presentations. The Virtue of the Month was "Friendship," so each student wrote a poem about one of their friends in their class. They picked names out of a hat to pair students up, and then they had to interview each other to get the content for their poems. They sought to find out what the other person liked to do, what their favorite things were, and even named a virtue that they thought their friend exhibited. This exercise also incorporated a lesson on rhyming words.

The result was a heart-felt and funny presentation. Enjoy!

Calling All Scientists

This afternoon, our PreK4 students took advantage of the beautiful sunshine to go on a nature hike adventure. Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. K gave each little scientist a plastic bag and a list of several items to look for while they explored. Their magnifying glasses gave them a way to get a closer look at God's amazing creation. They found so many interesting things, including: pine cones, sticks, flowers, grass, dandelions, rocks, and more!
